Phone Camera Competition July/August 2021: "Hot"
 

The topic is almost too obvious for this time of year (northern hemisphere; but I'm sure down-under people can make something out of it as well).
But let's see how you manage to visualise it.

Rules

• Photos must be taken during this month and posted before voting starts.
• Photos must be taken by the posting member.
• Photos must be taken with your phone's camera.
• Post processing is allowed but you have to say what you did.
• Users must name the phone and software they used.
• Users post only one photo per entry.
• Users can change the entry only once.
• 3 day voting period starts on August 28th at 20:00 UTC and ends on the evening of August 31st.
• Winner of the vote should choose the next month competition theme.
• You are allowed to continue off topic on this thread after competition.

The sun is the hottest thing I can imagine...haem

Isn't it really hot to dare posting a sunset picture on a forum :D?
Boah... tonight I saw the sun, I thought of TMO... perhaps the orange color :)

Taken with N900 CSSU cam app, in RAW mode (iunrc: SHIFT-r).
-So, no maemo software correction on the image given by the cam (see the color vignette + green). Camera far from being perfect (but not dogsh1t ;)).
-Tried to keep it as RAW as possible colorwise.
-Then, almost done nothing in Darktable to compensate bayer/matrix effect, very few white balance.
-Pulled a bit the mid tones with the curve.
-Added grain
-No cropping
-Darkened the dark blues to get real black.

Actually the opposite. The plan for this month was to get some pics from the Dead Sea, but got good deal for mint BRZ, and now stuck with all the hassle of new car - registration, insurance, selling the old one, etc..

I vote extend to next month.
We had the worst flood since ages instead of any day above 25°C :(
The pool i set up 1st of June has seen more chlorine tablets then swimmers as of yet :D

I'd second the extension for another month.

Here in the middle of the US, our unusual weather has been . . . nothing extreme. No torrential storms, rather little super-hot weather, I'm watering my lawn for only the second time this year today. Not a complaint, just wondering what we're being set up for . . .

OH, I see, is that just Germany or more of Europe or even the world?
We had some heavy rain up here, but exceptionally sunny and hot most of the time.
Rarely one sees lawns burnt yellow around here, now all grass that isn't in the shade is burnt.

Well, I spoke too soon about extreme weather. It's now over 102F, pushing 313K for the science-minded. Still nothing like the unprecedented stuff on the US and Canada Pacific coast. I hope endsormeans hasn't immolated!

It was hot on that beach, air temperature about 100F/38C. In the midday sun I'd guess the sand was somewhere around 125-145F or ~52-63C. It was painful to walk on, but at least sand doesn't conduct very well . . . still I kept moving quickly . . .

Also we managed to book a beach house (6 months in advance) in what would then be the hottest spot of covid-19 in the US, the "Redneck Riviera," spanning from approximately New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle. With an under 12-year-old along, you bet we stayed outside when other people were around in the vigorously air-changing gulf coast winds.

(Fun fact: I've learned from job experience that cardboard at 85C/185F is very hot to the touch but doesn't actually burn skin.)

My internet/computer time over the weekend was completely spent installing NectCloud on my employer's server. I honestly wasn't planning on missing the deadline - I rememebred it Friday, telling myself I'd put together the pics for voting on Saturday - then the next time I remembered it was sunday night.

Anyhow, this was supposed to be my entry:

Anyone willing to help me on one of my projects? I need to manipulate an image, crop couple of faces, add them to the base image, make them a bit transparent and resize them. I have only used paintshop on windows years ago and now using Gimp but just can't figure out how to edit the layers/imaged I paste on the base image. I understand it would be something like using different layers and then merge in the end but just can't make it work. So not a big or difficult job but just don't get it. If someone can chat with me on pm I would appreciate.


Or suggest easier image editor to use on stuff like this.

When you paste a "new layer" in gimp, it gets merged to the background automatically when you release it, if you do not explicitly right-click on the "layer" (in layer overview window) and select "to new layer".

More hints anytime.
