Broken speaker replacement on the N900

It appears the left speaker has died on my N900, is there a way I can replace it somehow?

Hi,
Is sourcing the replacement speaker(s) the issue here or the practicalities of N900 disassembly?

Here is just one source of these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133977431435

That's the earpiece speaker, I mean my left speaker.

Sorry my bad, you mean the "earpiece" stuck to the screen which was a common failure in early devices?

No, the actual loudspeaker i.e the ones used for music.

Cover the postage from new Zealand for my 2 n900 and some other spares like screens, I know one is still operating, both have working speakers, no use to me anymore...

Were you more asking on how to do it, actually?

Ah, ok. Seems you found. Quiet easy IIRC. Or? Went it right?

I have yet to find a tutorial on how to replace the N900's loudspeakers.

Re: Broken speaker replacement on the N900

I'd have told you to follow one of these "disassemble nokia n900" tutos.
But by watching them (2), I see the speakers are left in place.

I never changed a speaker.
I opened my N900 and took the speaker out.
It was glued to a rectangle ring foam.
Took out anyway, put back, booted: still working.

Use a tip or a thin blade or a tiny screwdriver to take it out, a little bit on each short side, then on the other short side and back, and so on.
Take your time and be sure not to harm the contact blades.

Be careful when putting back in place: speakers seem having a direction. It seems you can't turn it 180° (left is left and right is right).

Tu put the general flat screen plug back, join the two parts like if you'd close it back but leav enough space for your finger to press the plug. This helps (a bit) finding the plug's correct position.

Hope I'm clear enough...
Ask if ever you need.

Sounds rather finicky. I guess i'll just take one of my spare N900's instead then.

Nono, it's not so hard. Describing the action with text is more tricky hence it seems difficult.
It's not harder than opening an oyster actually but needs less efforts.

What you could do too is taking the plastic frame only (which contains the speakers) of another N900 and keep the other parts of your actual N900 (or at least the motherboard with your system and documents).

Well that was easier than I thought. Took more time replacing the keyboard bezel which I accidentally ****ed up than replacing the speaker.

This N900 I bought in early 2015 refuses to die!

Not sure which bezel you refer to, but a not-too-soft guitar pick is a really great accessory to have when disassembling electronic devices, prying open those pesky plastic parts. They even sell something very similar specifically for that, but a selection of picks is even better.

****ed up as in that I inserted the wrong screw, damaging the bezel.
