Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

Does it look any different at all compared to the Mohammad AG. applet? If so, would somebody please post a screen shot so that we can see it? Or maybe Coderus wants to put a screenshot in the OP? Thanks in advance . . .

It looks exactly the same :)

@coderus
If you put the slider to 0, it will disable the whole screen! please fix this so people wont endup disabling the screen... set the minimum at least to "1".

Thanks!

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

Does this work in power saving mode?

Meaning can I change the brightness from there?

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

HtheB, minimum at 1. i don't know how you can set it to 0 :D
Arie, yes, but in low-brighrness range. in very low range :)
mdbxm, no, after reboot you should set brightness again.

If I slide it to the totally left, it just turns off the lights...
Maybe because I'm using the N950?
Can you make a n950 version with minimum of 2 or 3?

coderus 2012-06-30 06:30

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

Arie, no, you shouldn't. Need to change file, if you have other password, no need to change your password =)
HtheB, uploaded, link same, minimum value now 3.

Nope, never use it :)
even if my device was in powersave mode, it shouldn't disable the lights...

coderus 2012-06-30 07:41

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

when powersave mode enabled lower brightness in hackybrightness very low. really low. more lower, than normal.

Ok, but I still have no lights :P
as I said before, can you make a new deb for N950 users please with a minimum of 5 instead of 1?
just to test it out

coderus 2012-06-30 13:26

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

test it self.
Code:

devel-su
echo 5 > /sys/devices/omapdss/display0/backlight/display0/brightness

thedead1440 2012-06-30 14:25

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

coderus the file you reuploaded too doesnt have the brightness slider in the status bar correspond to the settings brightness bar at all times.

i think this is why HtheB had the same problem as i put my slider in settings and status to the extreme left end...once it went to stanby mode, the screen literally turned off...i had to do a restart and change the slider's position before it could go to standby...

Re: [Announce] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

wow some of the requests are like asking all the phone's features to clutter the status bar...

I just tested it, and yes, the screen light turns off if I set it to 1.
But if I set it to 2, it wont turn off.

Can you please set the minimum to 2 then? :D

Re: [AWESOME] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

Great work so far... Can you set this to turn off automatic brightness on the N9 when it's installed... I think it may need to be incepted at that point... Thanks

Re: [AWESOME] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

i will make ALS-toggle later

Re: [AWESOME] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

and incept can't solve this hacky. root privileges are disabled for sysuid extensions. can't enable.

Very sad, but in principle is not fatal...

Re: [AWESOME] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

After changing root password, I can't set brightness in the status menu, even though I have changed "rootme" to my pw in /opt/hackybrightness/hackybrightness.sh also.

Is there a way to un/re-install this applet?

EDIT:
Now there's a problem: somehow I managed to get into unwanted situation where I can't use, install or uninstall this applet.

Trying to install:
Code:

N9-07-1_PR_001:~# dpkg -i system-ui-hackybrightness-control_0.0.2_armel\ \(1\).deb
Aegis rejecting system-ui-hackybrightness-control_0.0.2_armel (1).deb: package 'system-ui-hackybrightness-control' already installed from 'com.nokia.maemo/local' -- not replacing it from unknown origin
aegis aborting dpkg -- all listed package files rejected
Compilation failed in require.

Trying to uninstall:
Code:

N9-07-1_PR_001:~# dpkg -r system-ui-hackybrightness-control
dpkg: warning: ignoring request to remove system-ui-hackybrightness-control which isn't installed.

...and the brightness bar does not appear in the status bar/menu. Any ideas how to overcome this problem?

Reinstallation succeeded with dpkg -iB. Then set my pw again in hackybrightness.sh. And suddenly it's working!

Schturman 2012-07-02 08:42

Re: [AWESOME] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

Same here, after reboot with my root pass, applet not work.. Only if i change this password again it start to work..

coderus 2012-07-02 11:13

Re: [AWESOME] HackyBrightness status menu applet for Harmattan

why you installing in with inception? you should install it as usual, by clicking file or using dpkg -i
