How to extract/backup full ROM?
Since many links in the "how to" collection are broken, I start a new thread.
I have several questions, since I have experience only in MeeGo and Sailfish but not in Meamo and other linux OSes. My 1st and most important one. How can I backup/extract full ROM into flashable files which I can use to re-flash/recover in case a device bricks? Is there such an option for Meamo? Eg, does Nokia Infinity Best (BB5) or any other software have such option? My 2nd question is about drivers. Is there any pc software or other drivers I need to install in order to be able to send and receive files via usb data cable? Eg photos, music, pdf books etc, anything, no system files for start. Let's see if there are solutions for these questions and I might have some more questions in the future. Thank you in advance if anyone can help! :) |
Re: How to extract/backup full ROM?
Have you installed CSSU on your system? And if I remember right there could be in the repository pc-connectivity-manager to install. Have to say your sentence before the last one sounds like you are speaking to servants or something. Intended?

Re: How to extract/backup full ROM?
What about looking here for flashing files
https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.p...28Fremantle.29 and for USB connectivity for Windows you might need 'nokia connectivity drivers' and you should find them on the net if you are using Linux then just connect |

Can you check from your device settings device and system info what version you have installed.

Those firmware files allow you to flash a fresh* install onto your device, it's all you need really. Aside from hardware failures (especially the USB port, about which search the forum/wiki), this device is unbrickable if you have the flasher and the firmware. The wiki** has a great guide here (and it even mentions Windows 7 so your other issue might be answered there). For backing up existing installs the excellent BackupMenu will let you create images of your RootFS onto your MyDocs partition or SD Card. *Ideally you'll want to start work of a fresh install to be certain there's nothing malicious on there from a previous owner. **n900 users are so fortunate to have such a comprehensive wiki and this forum has nearly every question you could ask about it answered 5 times over :). I highly recommend you read through the beginner and power user topics on the wiki |

P.S. Although I have activated instant email notification, I receive no emails when you reply... So I just check manually, but in case I miss something, you can send me a pm (I hope I receive notification in that case)

Re: How to extract/backup full ROM?
Ok, guys, better to clarify something. I explained to Meamish as well, I didn't want to raise hopes or anything without having something solid first, but it is better to clarify it before we continue with more discussion about N900.
I never mentioned it is about N900. It is about a very rare, unreleased prototype, for which we only had a leak of renders from evleaks, not even a real photo of it, if it was real or just a concept. I also asked at its old thread. It is this one. https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=95962 It is most likely Linux and from all Nokia OSes, the closest one seems to be Meamo, that's why I try to find tools through Meamo to somehow extract its firmware and share it with the community here. But so far, it seems that I will need something more generic for Linux, not specific for Meamo. Its OS could be a variant or an evolution of Meamo, or something completely different. Also, it seems to be either early/buggy or even unfinished like the Kataya one. In weekend I will try to take some photos and create a new thread, but in the meantime if anyone has any further suggestions about cloning entire memory or something similar, with minimal risks, I would be very happy to try it out :) |
Re: How to extract/backup full ROM?
I suggest to first check the USB ENUM messages, ideally on linux
Look into linux' syslog (tail -f /var/log/messages) and watch the output while you connect the device to the PC via USB Paste here I wonder if Pali knows some details about an option to read out firmware using 0xFFFF. Gonna ask him on IRC if I find him Since you mentioned tools to access BB5 over in that other thread: N900 OS never runs on BB5 baseband, it has its own OMAP processor much similar to a Beagleboard-xM This might help: http://neo900.org/resources http://neo900.org/stuff/block-diagrams/n900/n900.html /j |

Re: How to extract/backup full ROM?
what also might make sense (while you already got a linux running):
make the device connect to your WLAN, then find the IP it got (look at your router for example to find out) and run nmap against that IP ports 0-65535, with service-detection/analysis for open ports |
