Evopedia
Hi all,
I'm trying to get Evopedia working but I'm not succeeding. It is an program to read wikipedia offline. I thought it would be a great way to have some information when on holiday where roaming is expensive. http://my-maemo.com/software/applica...to=1104&faq=33 I installed the package and downloaded the Dutch version of the dump on this site: (http://www.reitwiessner.de/openmoko/evopedia.html) saved the .squashfs file on my mmc card. When I run the program it opens the browser and asks me to select the location of the wikipediadump. I found the media/mmc1 folder where the file should be but nothing happens. Anyone got it working? Regards Ruud |
Re: Evopedia
You said "where the file should be", was it there or not? If it was there, did you select it properly?

Re: Evopedia
without squashfs-support it will take hours to extract via unsquashfs (in easy debian for example) because of too many subfolders in the dump...

Re: Evopedia
in easy-debian (or on your desktop computer) apt-get install squashfs-tools. then run: unsquashfs -d <Foldername> wikipedia.squashfs

Re: Evopedia
The package currently in extras-devel does not work with squashfs-dumps (they were used in version 0.2.x). Working dumps will be available at http://wiki.maemo.org/Evopedia. Please be patient! ;-)

1) I downloaded evopdedia from the repository 2) I downloaded a wikipedia.squashfs file from I http://www.reitwiessner.de/openmoko/evopedia.html 3) Put the wikipedia.squash file in the folder user/ the n900 4) downloaded easy debian, installed it, rebooted. URL="http://wiki.maemo.org/Easy_Debian"]http://wiki.maemo.org/Easy_Debian[/URL] 5) installed unsquashfs by typing Code:
apt-get install squashfs-tools 6) in easy debian typed Code:
cd /media/mmc1 7) typed in Code:
unsquashfs -d wiki wikipedia.squashfs It then starts extracting a lot of files, (980224) But for every file it tries to extract it gives the message Code:
failed to change uid and gids on wiki/... because Operation not permitted edit: I guess i have to be patient :) |
Re: Evopedia
i guess, the unsquashed fs is not useable on a fat partition (because of too many subfolders, symlinks and missing ids). Maybe using another filesystem for the image would be a solution?

Re: Evopedia
The first German Wikipedia dump is now available. Some articles seem to be missing, but that should not be a real problem. Please try it out and have fun!
Note that you need evopedia version 2.99 (or 3.0) installed. |
Re: Evopedia
can you make an english version as well? and upload it as a torrent? for some reason I had a problem downloading the other 7gig file on my n900.
