They managed to miss-spell "Sailfish OS". I hope that's not indicative of the quality of their products.

Jolla Booth is sporting n Xperia XZ (TMavica corrects to XA2!) running sfos.

But wtf is the HMD Nokia 3 or 5 stripped of all branding doing there :D
Is that proof nokia and HMD having contact after all?

Seems like they were quite busy and got a lot planned for this year. I'm really looking forward to it.

Re: MWC2018 news

Seems that the "low-end spec" and "feature phone" segments are the next battle ground in the market.

- Google has already been planning some stuff given Android Go
- Now apparently Jolla has managed to get some manufacturers to notice that Qt/QML is very light-weight and remainsl pretty fluid even on more modest hardware specs.

(Common: Next years feature phones' hardware specs won't be that much different from venerable Jolla 1's specs, and that smartphone can still run SFOS fluidly including a few android apps).

Newer faster SoC, much bigger battery, rear-facing NFC reader/writer, rear-facing fingerprint sensor, marginally shorter.

Jedibeeftrix 2018-02-26 12:21

Re: MWC2018 news

faster?

it is 14nm which is a nice process i mprovement, but at the end of tyhe day it is pitting A53 cheapo cores against A72 fulphat cores.

If it would run on the new 8110, then that plus Gemini 4G would be an attractive combo for me.
(Though I'd still prefer Chens Lauta re-imagining.)

oh yeah, it is...

Qualcomm SDM630 Snapdragon 630 (Xperia XA2) better than Qualcomm MSM8956 Snapdragon 650 (Xperia X)?

and Adreno 508 (Xperia XA2) better than the Adreno 510 (Xperia X) ?

It also says:

Octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A53 for the XA2
vs
Hexa-core (4x1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & 2x1.8 GHz Cortex-A72) for the X

because:

The company (Qualcomm) has announced the Snapdragon 630, a successor to the wildly popular Snapdragon 625 (and little-used 626), along with the Snapdragon 660, a completely revamped and more-efficient sequel to the Snapdragon 650 (and 653).

Source: https://www.androidcentral.com/qualc...-660-platforms

It seems the 630 might be as good as the 650, but with much less power consumption and better LTE/Bt/Etc support and the 14mm construction which helps speeding things up whilst consuming less

Yeah, that device looks awesome. I can trade my last Refund for a device like that. No problemo.

Can’t find much info regarding sailfish 3. Is that just a name for the same old or will it give new buyers a reason to buy it?

Hope it’s not a sailfish 2 all over again :D

Yes, you have to prove you are speeking german to understand the advertisements....

But no loss, it is only (positive) german comments on the video posted one page earlier here.

The 3310 v2017 can be seen at the end of this video as well, after the Gemini PDA. I have no idea what the guy is saying, but it's still more footage of these two devices running Sailfish.

I wonder, is it a real nokia hw or just some phone with the same form-factor? It's missing the NOKIA label?
