Re: The mighty n900 week 2013 (Day 7 of 7)

My N900 is still my daily phone.

And with the recent gmail modest bug, I discovered CSSU and my phone has come alive again!

I even bought a new battery for it, and finding all the tweaks I...

Re: Facebook chat contacts bug on N9?

Same thing happened on my N900

I agree removing the facebook account from "Availability" menu, then readding seemed to fix it.

Facebook contact photos don't seem to be updating, but that is no...

Mine currently is 1.9% user, 0.8% sys 0.0% nice, 96.2% idle.

But I more mean to look at the part below so you can see what is using your CPU cycles:

Re: how fast your battery drain?

Most battery related problems are a program that won't go idle. Or maintaining a 3G data connection with chat enabled, or wifi (not so bad) with chat.

Try this:
top -d 240

and leave it alone...

Re: Alternative way of tethering N900 to Linux laptop.

I use Wicd already, and it's pretty good apart from occasional suspend/resume issues. Haven't worked out how to use it for this though. I've never managed to get network-manager working for any...

Re: is there a fault with nokia n900 gps ?

Don't know if it's placebo, but having GPSJinni open at the same time seems to help.

Or maybe it just because I can watch the flashy satellite graphs while waiting for them to get a signal.

Smile Alternative way of tethering N900 to Linux laptop.

I've discovered most of the guides for tethering (using the N900 as a modem for a 3G data connection on a laptop) seem to assume you use Ubuntu and have a full gnome environment.

Took me a while...

Re: in there way to have separate contact list for gsm vs other im (internet chat gtalk, yahoo, skype)

The easiest thing is to merge contacts, so all the contact methods for one person appear under their name, along with green circles when they are online via that service. Then when you click the name...

Re: Black themes save battery life?

I would agree. Since to make black, an LCD has a backlight then applies current to all the LCD pixels to block the backlight and produce black, (rather than their usual transparent state)

It does...

Re: Battery Life just got Amazing. 4 Days of Standby!

That's due to the battery chemistry. If you hit it hard over a short period, then let it rest it recovers somewhat. Often seen in AA devices.

I think it has to do with the chemical reactions at...

Re: How long are you planning on keeping your n900 for?

Yep, as long as it works, and does the job. Unless something close to a week long battery life, running Debian comes out..

Re: FCAM thing in a nutshell for non-developers...

It's called dcraw, and there's a bunch of graphical derivatives that use it as the engine.

xcalib to invert the phone's display: anyone ported?

Many of you probably know "xcalib -i -invert" on linux inverts the screen by switching the colour tables for the display. So the whole of X is inverted.

Try it now, run again to switch back. Its...

As they mentioned above dcraw (on which many opensource and some comervial RAW converters are based) can't open the DNG files.

I think this error may be unique to MSN protocol. And the plugin just isn't handling it gracefully.

When using pidgin on my desktop with MSN I would get the same error if I logged in...

built in IM/chat: Is there a way to have status "away" after a time out?

Just wondering if there is a way to have the built in IM chat client change your status to "away" or idle after a certain period? Just like pidgin does. Or even manually? there's only "Online",...
