Thanks gsirit, editing the alsamixer fixes it, but controlling the increase and decrease of the volume levels still remains an unsolved problem. Even after you edit the volume level using the command...

I downloaded the patch1 and followed your directions. So far, no matter how far i increase the volume on the n900 with my headphones on, theres no increase in volume. Just stays low volume...

I enabled smartreflex on both vdd1 and vdd2. I read somewhere if you enable them the reverse order, your suppose to more battery life, but i didnt find that to be so.

What has worked for me is enabling SMART REFLEX via the terminal commands.
I used to get 4-5hours with moderate to low use. Now i get 14+ hours with heavy to moderate use. Maybe an hours worth of...

And since today I unplugged my N900 from the charger around 10am and its now 9:34pm and the battery is 43%.

I tried typing /etc/pmconfig into the xterminal after i gained access to root but it said

"/bin/sh: /etc/pmconfig: permission denied"

So i'm not sure what to do.

I dont think the iphone problem is that bad since I lose reception with my n900 when i hold it in tablet form.I gotta say that the n900 has one of the most annoying reception problems ive ever had...
