Treat the USB port with extreme care.

Your symptoms suggests some impending problems. N900 USB is known to come off very easily, so if you can fix it while you still have time.

Otherwise, it could just be that your official supply is dead now, and other chargers will not work on N900 unless they follow USB charging specification very closely (which is that data lines must be shorted).
