I'm surprised it worked at all.

FWIW, I use FileBox and it has a "root mode" - I rarely use it though because it's wiser to use the command line for system admin. Learn to ssh into your phone, it's MUCH more comfortable to do it from you desktop machine with a full-size keyboard & screen!
