The seller claims to be a developer who could get his hands on the N950 devices.

No link. Is he any relation to the scamming bas**** in this thread?

Claimed he worked for Accenture and he's got 200+ N950s up for grabs. Got himself kicked off eBay for his efforts,

Name seems familiar, so I'd say yeah... that's the same bloke that had sold like 19 to unsuspecting folks.

According to DomainTools, Microsoft registered the domain Sony-Microsoft.com. No specifics what this entails—could be anything from software to game machines. Kotaku is following up with Microsoft. [DomainTools]

The only good thing after all: Nokia keeps its patents, so they could protect Jolla SailfishOS...?

Why would they protect Jolla? What would motivate them to do that if Nokia is majority-owned by Microsoft now? I really don't understand this line of thinking.

As far as I understand the news, Microsoft bought a part of the smartphone unit from Nokia and licensed the patents. Furthermore, Microsoft is allowed to use the Nokia brand until 2015 but not any longer.
This is not said in the PR, but I understand that Nokia could also use the mobile patents on their side as well. They should therefore be able to either license e.g. Android/Jolla/FFOS/... phones or maybe even set up a new unit and produce smartphones (running Android/Jolla/FFOS/...) again. Or are their any restrictions in the deal that ban Nokia from producing smartphones?

To be precise, MS bought all mobile devices functions from NOK, including R&D, Manufacturing and Services, along with the Lumia and Asha brands.

On hindsight, this is precisely the reason Nokia had promoted the Lumia brand of smatphones, and delibrately played down the Nokia brand. Now it is easy to switch spinning the story from "Nokia Lumia" to "Microsoft Lumia"

Makes me wonder if the whole thing was planned from the start... surely not?? [¹]

Propably there are no restrictions really but think a bit about this... Who's going to do it all? And where? And how? What is a company but a living process, cut it from one place and plant it somewhere else, it might take root but surely the hole left in the original site cannot grow up anything that soon.
After the deal goes through all the knowhow is @MS, there's nothing to start from. It takes years to recreate anything worth mentioning.

[1] well of course it was, what else did you think?

That would be a shame as it is quite a capable featurephone, it does email, chat and surfing, and it does it at least twice as fast as my 5x more expensive n900!
