i hve just bought the n900 and updated it to pr1.2 even charging it for the first time
but when i charged the phone it takes too long around 2 hrs and 15 mins
is that normal?
or is there some defect with the battery

To fully charge my phone also takes something over 2 hours. I think that's normal when taking the battery capacity (1350mAh) and charger power (1200mA) into account.

Charging on USB (500mAh) however takes much more time.
