I know LCDs nowadays don't need them, but they are still nice to look at.

It probably would be better if there was an option for only running the screensavers while plugged on the charger to avoid running out of battery too soon, also perhaps an option to lower screen brightness, as well as a timeout to end the ss and shut down the screen completly.

It would be good if it had a timeout to startm the screensaver separated from the timeout to lock the screen and keys.

If possible, make it compatible with desktop, screensavers ("xScreensavers" ?)

or even better, maybe make the screensaver the background. That would rock...especially if it was maybe something that reacted to sound, light, system load, or whatever.

Maybe you want to have a look at the "live wallpaper" package. This package offers animated backgrounds for your N900 desktops and with the Xscreensavers or xsnow package installed, you can have popular X11 screensavers as backgrounds.

One of the standard backgrounds of "live wallpaper" includes accelerometer support and changes when you tilt the device.

Are those packages avaible in the maemo repos? And do they allow for battery saving, holding the backlight while running etc?

Yes, they are (0.8 is in -devel). And no, they don't, they work like live wallpapers AFAICT.

Oh, and, LCDs nowadays do need screensavers. Maybe N900 doesn't, what with battery saving and all, but don't be marketed out of a nice screen. LCDs burn too. Takes longer.
