This is probably part of the plan M$ has for Nokia. Let the stock slide (or force it down) and absorb Nokia later at a a bargain price.

We're not there yet but it is just a matter of implementation.

The Dalvik VM on Android doesn't attempt to get the fastest theoretically possible execution speed because that's not its focus.
Are you mad? Do you even understand what ASM is you namby pamby .net loving fruit?

Another interesting, lengthy as always, essay by Nokia evangelist Tomi Ahonen.

http://communities-dominate.blogs.co...new-nokia.html

Essentially Nokia knew all along it was screwed, and the Board had to take radical measures. In fact he even describes Elop as a compromise candidate.

Nokia's Microsoft left breast nipple latch seems to have brought some sense into Tomi's protracted musings. First time ever, I mostly agree with him.

Elop, the traitor, is on stage with Ballmer at Microsoft's keynote.

Actually, you can. Its all natively executed eventually, but obviously the JIT takes more time to get bytecode into native machine code.

That said a JIT language can be designed to be safe at compile time. This means it can run in ring 0 with the kernel itself. No slow context changes means a good JIT language can be FASTER than one written in C++ or even assembly possibly.

Despite all the bashing on Nokia's stock, it is STILL HIGHER than its lowest point in the last year. Its only down %5 over the last 6 months.

About JIT and native application performance:

Common on, friends. The "faster" feeling of Android devices is not because of that or optimized/non-optimized GPU. It comes because much more simple Android structure - the number of server applications is minimized, even inter process communication is done in kernel instead of a separate dbus.

For now it is OK, but with faster CPUs it needs to be changed and it will be changed. Maemo/MeeGo/Traditional Linux architecture is good starting from some CPU performance level. The selection of 600MHz CPU in N900 was not a good choice on this background.

It would be an epic fail if Intel managed to get MeeGo in a smartphone and it made more profit then winmo7 phones.
Just wishful thinking...
