Well it looks like your device does recognize the charger being plugged, but something is still wrong as it doesn't recognize it as a "wall charger". For example, this is how my output looks like:

~ $ lshal -m

Start monitoring devicelist:
-------------------------------------------------
08:38:46.138: usb_device_1d6b_2_musb_hdrc property usb_device.vbus = 1 (0x1)
08:38:46.324: bme property maemo.charger.connection_status = 'connected'
08:38:46.334: bme property maemo.charger.type = 'unknown'
08:38:46.353: bme property maemo.rechargeable.positive_rate = true
08:38:46.934: bme property battery.rechargeable.is_discharging = false
08:38:46.965: bme property battery.rechargeable.is_charging = true
08:38:46.990: bme property battery.remaining_time = 7200 (0x1c20)
08:38:47.089: bme property maemo.rechargeable.charging_status = 'on'
08:38:47.097: bme property maemo.charger.type = 'wall charger'

Can you please run the same command, and this time connect your USB cable instead of the charger?

Stupid question, is it the N900's Nokia charger? Me and a buddy swapped a blackberry charge one time and it would not properly charge my phone ... which was a que for me to check it and get my charger back.

Worth a look.

My phone has developed a similar issue lately, but I think I've found a simplified fix:

When switching from wall charger to usb or car charger, reboot the phone before starting the charge.

Know it sounds like a pain having to switch off and reboot the device every time you change charger, but it's a lot less painful than sending the phone in for repair.

Is this the same charger that came with the phone?
The same cable? Try a different cable.

Try a different charger with at least the same number of Milliamp output and same voltage. It could be a bad charger or the cable.

I accidentally plugged in my Amazon Kindle charger to the N900. The little white charger really heated up and did not charge the n900. Not a wise move.

The battery voltage on my charger is about 4100 or so when hooked to the PC or the wall charger.
Your reading is 3784. Could this be too low from the charger?

What? are you SURE this is the output when connecting the device to the computer with the USB data cable?
So how come it recognizes it as maemo.charger.type = 'wall charger'?
Are you using the original Nokia USB cable which was supplied to you with your N900? It is very important that you do, as sometimes even if a cable looks like it fits the N900 - it actually doesn't.

For example, in addition to my N900 I also own a Nokia N85, which also uses the same Nokia CA-101 micro-usb cable, but for some reason it won't work properly if connected to my N900 (the computer won't recognize the N900), and if I try to connect the micro-usb cable which I received in the box with my N900 to my N85 - the N85 won't be recognized by my computer...

This is the micro-usb cable I received in the box with my N900:

My point is - if you didn't use the N900's ORIGINAL micro-usb cable when you started the lshal -m command, please do so and then paste the output to here.
