Hold down volume down until you feel a vibration. Works blind and on lock screen, too.

Jolla has seemed like the closest thing going for this, but the 2.0 discussion here has been interesting; i just can't tell if they are going in the direction i prefer (i think they are. Really can't wait for this tablet to see).
I'm speaking just for myself, but for me, it is closer to the N9, which is not necessarily a good thing. Sailfish 1.0 was an evolution of Harmattan, in my eyes and this feels like a step back. But what's worse, it feels like a compromise - Harmattan was a consistent system, Sailfish 1.0 was a consistent system (a strong design leadership of Jaakko Roppola was clearly visible), but Sailfish 2.0 feels like an inconsistent hybrid of both.

Again, I understand most decisions behind 2.0 (yet I think some should have been thought through more carefully), but it feels like a step back.

I liked the clear design of Harmattan and even more the one of Sailfish 1.0, but Sailfish 2.0 looks like it is heading to the Android way of having an inconsistent system without strong design leadership. But then again, maybe that's an unavoidable price of adding new features - the trade-of between complexity and ease of use.

Nah, there has been some extremely poor decision making and execution at Jolla. Blaming the market is ridiculous.

Whilst 3rd party Android ROMs have exploded in popularity, FirefoxOS has carved a decent niche and continues to expand, and UbuntuTouch already has 3 devices on the market despite effectively still being an early beta, and they already have 3rd parties willing to base their ROM on UT (KDE Plasma). Meanwhile, after 4 years, and coming from a very solid base with Maemo and Meego, Sailfish has seen meagre progress and Jolla finally have a small 3rd tier Indian brand that specialises in the ultra budget market (one not ideal for SF given its massive resource issues). Also, there's some reason to be sceptical given that they could only show a Jolla in plastic casing 5 weeks ago, but supposedly an all new device will be available in October ... plus they specialise in MTK phones (no SF adaptions yet) and since almost all their phones are off the shelf from chinese and taiwanese OEMs, they likely have little to no experience with hardware adaption and support.

Combo of easy of use and feature completeness was possible with Maemo and Harmattan.
With Sailfish 2.0 preview we have still lack of features (check SIP still in top 5 of most requested on together.jolla.com) and the flow of the OS feels like they just forgot to connect a couple of parts.

Even they decided to reduce cover actions while a tablet with its large display could just allow for a magnified showcase of those cover actions.

Q: Who at Jolla is using a Jolla and are you challenging the device enough?
At some point as an investor I would wish for a Chinese manager to take the place of Marc, give him an N9 and a mission: copy this.

I tried to search from together.jolla.com about idea related application selection into Ambiances but did not find one so made this:

https://together.jolla.com/question/...-to-ambiances/

Any thoughts would this work?

So you're proposing using ambience as some sort of profile? If so, I like this idea.

Bluefoot, just a couple of points here:

I don't think Intex plans on having anything out until the end of the year. Intex has stated in their press release:

Sailfish based products can be expected by Oct-Nov-Dec quarter from Intex Technologies(India)
Which is usually corporate-speak for "by the end of December".

Well, then it's good for Intex that Jolla is doing the hardware adaptation for them, isn't it. From the Sailfish Development Roadmap (3d quarter):

Intex device related adaptation:
  • Backlight, sensors, thermal limits and RTC
  • Package dhd
  • Audio and resource policies
EDIT: I've got bluetooth on the brain lately, sorry for the name confusion bluefoot.

Yes. "Automated" application handling via Ambiance.

There was conflicting information which came out of MWC #2 but October was mentioned several times. Furthermore their twitter account said October 2 days ago. Even if it was December the point still stands.

I'm aware of that, which is awful news for future and existing SF users ... Jolla struggled horribly with the tablet and give the impression that they're stretched very thinly. They would be involved with adaption regardless, but having a partner that can likely contribute nothing useful to the process is less than ideal.

The ambiance should be a profile!
Not just a picture with some sounds!
It should be fully configurable!
