There is no other way!
Backup - reflash - restore
That's it!
or install it in the ordinary 2GB /home without having 8GBs of memory

Why not having both hardware layouts on the same boot?
Anysoftkeyboard allows it.

Install http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/
then install the desired language packs (you can install more than one) from http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/downloads/list

Once you installed everything you will need to turn on the softkeyboard and deactivate the built-in android keyboard (settings->languages and keyboards). Once you done that activate the layouts from the anysoftkeyboard settings app and you can switch between them by clicking the blue arrow and space keys.

If you think you can understand it, have a look at the keyboard mapping config file in
Code:
/and/system/usr/keylayout/opmap_tw14030keypad.kl

Fixed the link.
There is no need to recompile nothing, just edit the config file or install softkeyboard which supports the physical keyboard.

Hi ammyt! Just saw this changelog now

Current Port Info:
* Dual Boot With overclocking in maemo And Fairly Stable
* Using FroYo 2.2
* WiFi Works
* Fairly Fast System
* Keyboard Works
* Sound via Speakers and phone headset.
* Sound recording should work too
keyboard has been remapped as follows:
left + right arrows = duplicate volume controls
up arrow = home (hold for tasklist)
down arrow = back
backspace = backspace
From http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=49811
How come your info says call voice calls is still under development? isn't sound the only showstopper bug for voice calls?
