Hi All,
I have an N900
I have installed an application called notification area .... i see it brings an extra selection box in the status area but when i click it all i get is a bar at the bottom stating Notification Area ... it hasnt 'notified' me of anything yet and i have had it installed for a few days now???
Anyone know what it notifies me of?

Cheers

I assume its from most standard xorg desktops where an application can have a 'notification icon' running all the time. The same as with Windows' System Tray (next to the clock on the Start Menu Bar).

One example I could think that might work on Maemo, is if you are running Sylpheed (an email client), that has a Notification/System Tray Icon.

Not sure where it would actually appear on Maemo though, next to the battery/wifi icons maybe?

... wouldn't that mean it should be pulled in as a dependency if such an application actually uses it, but shouln't be visible as a "user/" app in the application manager? (to avoid exactly this confusion.)

Exactly my point on the package page:
