Purism is a real joke, I don't take purism as company serious anymore. I will send a message to theyr support to see if I can get money back.
Beta birtch/chestnust phones should be sold for half price and the aspen should be sent out to developers at plasmamobile, ubuntuphone for free!
I take fairphone more serious because they care about environment.
I take system76 more serious because they are real linux geek company.
I take tuxcomputer more serious because they similar system76 laptops for european countries.
I take Jolla more serious because they have the best working mobile OS!
I take pine64 more serious because they atleast care about the devs first and they are real Linux geeks.
Purism is doomed I do not expect them deliver anything 2020.
Who know if it's true, but make a lot of sense. Hopefully doesn't ruin the company future.

Somehow I see the Pinephone as the only genuine competitor for the Librem 5. All the more so in the USA.
Purism would (already have) be(en) doomed in a more competitive world. The past has proven the opposite.
Purism continues to fail on multiple grounds, including as a (real) company. But, as yet, they have failed to completely fail (i.e. go broke). And that is the essential basis for dreams to come true. Just look at Jolla's history.

I just read part 1, which itself drops a few bombs:
Most notably among those things is the ability to make and receive traditional phone calls. Sure we've seen screenshots of it calling people, but we've never actually heard it do this. This is important because according to Purism's own public issue tracker, call audio currently has severe unresolved problems, meaning that its currently not possible to comfortably make a traditional phone call on the Librem 5. In addition, Todd Weaver openly admitted in one of his videos with Gardiner, that the phones camera and bluetooth hardware does not yet function. He also stated that battery life is still rather poor as he himself requires two fully charged batteries himself to get through a full day. In addition the phone still lacks proper power management and future iterations will be re-engineered to include a heat pipe that will help with the current thermal issues.
Finally, despite the fact that Purism heavily implied on the original crowdfunding page that it was supposed to be powered by a full FOSS stack, it has now been made clear that the phone will have to use proprietary firmware blobs for a variety of onboard devices.
Despite all of these issues, they are saying this device is ready to be shipped to customers.
Like you said: Who know if it's true, but make a lot of sense.
It certainly explains why I've never seen an actual review (as in "I am using this as my mobile device now, and this is my verdict").
Let me get one thing clear:
I don't really care if Purism are an arsehole company. We all use devices from arsehole companies every day and can be quiet content & happy about it.
I don't care if the Librem 5 is ridiculously overpriced - we all know that's how it goes when you produce in small numbers.
I don't even care that they a few promises about the phone being 100% FOSS, soft and hard. Really, one or two blobs are OK for me.
But I do care that there doesn't seem to be a single Purism 5 in existence that actually works!
I do care about a bunch of FOSS developers that develop software for a device that does not exist!
Not to speak of all the backers and pre-orderers that are being fed lies after lies after lies.
What a clusterf**k.

you, and most of the others are looking at it the wrong way IMO. It was obvious a long time ago that they would not be able to deliver as first planned. Who ever is at least a bit into all of this knew that there was zero chance to have it done by that first date since they had to do EVERYTHING. Find blobs free HW that can be used in mobile phone and then write the whole OS and all apps. Well, they used gnome so a lot of it was there but still needed A LOT of work to make it work on 5ˇscreen and touch only.
And then was a delay. And another one. And another one.....
Basically what they did is pushed something/anything that at least resembles what they promised just to keep the thing going. Otherwise, if they waited to make all they wanted to be as they wanted, everybody else would forget that they ever anounced a phone at all. And now, while this first batch might be a total crap it is at least something that resembles in SW and HW what they wanted to achieve and is a lot easier to go from this point on.
Will they make it all work by the fourth batch? No way IMO. But now they have some sort of real life device so it's easier to spot all the wrongs and make them right which would not be possible on developer boards. After all, every company has prototypes, some even get stolen or lost, but all of them work with much more standardized HW so all that looks much more like finished product.

In general I do not like modern smartphones (software/hardware) for known reasons.
Personally I do appreciate that a company came as far as purism with the librem5 that I actually would like to use as a daily driver.
There are not many other phones with those features like hardware switches, linux support, FOSS focus, etc. I suppose they do the best they can but it's just not an easy task to engineer a phone with those specifications. Don't see the point in bashing a FOSS focused company. For me it's worth the wait anyhow (just think of the Ubuntu Touch project, which just never happened, Canonical even gave up the development of the OS).
