A HTML5 runtime with X11 and TouchWiz UI? Doesn't sound too exciting...
Its a Debian based Phone-OS, with those specs, without that dalvik-crap running on top of the kernel it should run like a beauty, just look at Harmattan on the N9, every person who has handled my N9 has talked about how smooth it works and how nice it multitasks.

I'm thinking the community can do a lot with a device like that.

The question is, will Samsung allow tinkering, or will you have to buy a special developer device for it?

The hardware on Samsung Z is what I was hoping that Jolla will be - AMOLED, 2GB RAM, 1280x720 screen, 2600mAh battery.

@pycage: How do you know it will use X.org rather than Wayland?

I don't know. I haven't followed Tizen too close lately. Did it make the move to Wayland already?

It was the same with jolla when they hit us with their device. Focus on sw and to get it out to end-user.
Errm, I seem to recall you at the vanguard there, even I was on occasion.

Why is that so many think: "Oooh it's teh Debian-based, it's teh l337!", there's so many more components to an entire sw stack.
Also, one doesn't have to run the dalvik runtime on Sailfish, it's not like it's seared irreversibly into it's DNA, nice to have around but.
Even Sammy agrees, having lately embraced one for Tizen...

Isn't Tizen rpm-based and MeeGo-based and not Debian-based since about a year?

Tizen? You mean Debian & MeR/Nemo based? Noooo sir.
Uses OBS though: https://wiki.tizen.org/wiki/OSDev
*EDIT*
My bad, yes it is RPM-based...
https://wiki.tizen.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines
And with a quick search seems to have been since quite early:

Certainly not MeR/Nemo-based (MeeGo descendants) though.
