nope.

price is always right when buyer and seller are in agreement. don't worry, you haven't found a place for endless arbitrage...

being an alpha male instead a sheep doesn't give you 50% discount, sorry

no, that's of course not after tax, since amazon.com neither knows nor cares what tax to apply to international orders. i assume the same applies to nokia.com.

you are actually importing an item, and customs will apply. along with those customs, the VAT will also be collected by your customs office before handing out the article. unless you're lucky and they don't notice your package - which actually is more common than them opening it, i'm just saying you're taking a risk

It's for the same reason that the price of coffee there would be different than a cup of coffee here. Various differing factors as:

- Currency exchange
- Tax
- Logistic costs
- Local buying power
- Estimated quantity to be sold

So, yeah... http://sadviolin.com/

...and then there's another thing - the warranty.. in usa, it often is only like 90 days or so - while e.g. in czech rep. and slovakia, it's 2 years (and I think it's at least one year in most/?all? countries of EU)...

"Shipping: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S."

actually, looking at the price at amazon.co.uk made me consider ordering my n900 from there. i wanted to get the english layout anyways, and with the pound being as weak as it currently is, Ģ469 is a great price. 100€ less than on amazon.de...

Sounds to me like someone needs to take an Econ course 101 and then come back here and whine some more. This thread needs people to stop responding so it can slowly disappear from the main page.

Edit:
Whole point of that statement was to help the OP realize the foolishness in his statements and that his points are completely invalid. I was sort of making/having fun with the wording. But the second part with the responding seemed to help :P only 1 response

If you did what you're preaching, you'll see that you're wrong: neither vat nor customs[*] account for the difference.
It's just that they know they can squeeze europe more than the usa (and continental europe more than the uk). Probably they can do that because most aren't really good with a calculator
[*]these products aren't produced in the usa, so they have to pay custom duties too.

No actually itīs all in the VAT. The $582 (Amazon) or 649 (NokiaUSA.com) is without the VAT equivalent. Amazon.co.uk 469 GBP translates into 742 USD today and includes the VAT. 583*1.15 is 694 (you get that one, but amazon.com may change their prices at some point) 649*1.15 is $746. And then again currency rates change, but prices are not changing daily with them. So Iīd say that this is corresponding pretty well to the difference in sales taxes and how they are applied and advertised.

You would be surprised to know my friend that mobile phone rates are actually higher in the US than in Europe. In fact I am paying more than 3 times here what I paid in Denmark for same cell phone services. When it comes to technology the US is not really at the forefront and communication prices are really outrageous here. Quoted and advertised prices do not necessarily mean anything here.

Case in point:
I had home phone (landline) from AT&T two years ago. Advertised monthly prices quoted at $25.99/mo. After applying all surcharges, taxes and fees I ended up paying $54/mo. Ofcourse I said screw you to AT&T and dropped the damn landline, wasnīt worth it.

In Denmark I would have escaped with the same for less than $20 (all taxes included) Iceland less than $15.

Coverage is also a mess in the US. For work I travel more than half the year. Iceland and the US are roughly just as dense (population/square miles or kilometer). Youīd be hard pressed to find a spot in Iceland where you donīt have two bars or more. In much of my travels here in the US I am however fortunate if I get two bars on AT&T.

Donīt believe US cell phone rates being higher than "socialist" ( )Europe? Check the OECD:

Why do people in the UK and Europe always get other cool phones i.e. HTC Touch Pro 2, Samsung HD, Samsung Omnia, Renoir, or X3 for free combined with Wii's, Sony digital camera's, iPods...that's what I wanna know.
