Conky on the desktop with MPD integration.

Conky with the new config present in 1.6.1-2.

Download link: http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/conky_1.6.1-2_armel.deb

Changes:
  • Based on latest upstream. 1.6.1 compared to 1.5.1.
  • Contains a modified autohome applet by me. autohome applet by sdsman.
  • Contains wartstew's conkyrc (which is based on mine :>) . Modified by me to be white rather than purple, fixed temperature so it is actually shown in Celsius. System line added. MPD support re-added. Various other changes as listed in #3.
  • No need to enter Red Pill mode to install.
  • /home/user/.conkyrc is now a deb conffile.
  • Compiled with Diablo SDK.
  • Compiled with optimizations.

Install instructions:
  1. Uninstall conky if already installed using application manager.
  2. Install conky deb file with application manager.
  3. Enable the Conky desktop applet to show Conky. Disable it to close Conky.

Bug[s]:
  • Conky is not startup friendly. It will not show on bootup even if the applet is enabled. Disable and re-enable the applet to view conky again. I tried many variations of an init script, sleep etc to no avail. I give up on that front.
  • It flickers. Double buffering stops it but matchbox hates it and goes white. fms is right, be nice if it didn't use an xwindow for drawing...

I've modified the .conkyrc quite a bit:

  • Now uses the built in i2c command to retrieve temperature instead of execi, cat & sed.
  • Network section automatically hides when in offline mode and shows again in normal mode.
  • Size in MB added to drives.
  • Drives and ram sorted out a bit better.
  • MPD section now shows file name if tags not available.
  • MPD section now shows time in song and volume.

Deb is updated, for now, if you wish not to reinstall, get the .conkyrc from here:

Thanks. It is pretty.
Problems, all behave like that,
MPD not responding
it blinks once every second. because of MPD?
On the N810 which runs 4.2008.30-2 but it showed 4.2008.23-14
while the N800 is shown correctly, by default
TIA,

N810/4.2008.30-2 int flash boot
N800/4.2008.23-14 MMC boot
N800/4.2008.23-14 int flash boot
bun

That may be because the ssu update doesn't update the hostname.
Hmm, if you do not use mpd, you can edit the ~/.conkyrc and delete the last 3 lines. I'll add an option that checks for mpd and only adds the mpd lines if it is installed.

It's set to refresh (read: flicker) every 5 seconds.

I think an option for the refresh is utmost important. For me, I want it to set for 24 hr or only if user press a button. The refresh is sort of like RSS feed, it is quite personal. BTW, the apps is fascinating, to give so much info upon reboot. Is the flicker also editable on the .conkyrc?

Edit: did it, I set the reflash to 600.0 and I added # to the last 3 lines, it showed up with the '#' sign, that is funny.

Very cool qwerty. How about the ability to choose between degrees in F or C and how often to reflash? Benson tells us how you increased flash refresh.

I use emelfm2 and edit the file /Home/User/.conkyrc
change refresh from 5.0 to 185.0
font size from 12 to 13

If you loss conky because reflash rate set to high, just go to task bar, uncheck conky, OK, re-check conky it will reappear.

Either you have me confused with someone else, or this confused with some other refresh rate; the only refresh-rate tweaking I have posted (while conscious, at least) would be for the package manager. That's a gconf setting.
