I have already removed the back cover to place the battery in. However I need to remove it again to put the sim in.

The battery cover was solid when I removed it the first time, I was suprised and was very secure,

This time its too secure. I cant remove the dam thing, starting to hurt my thumb nail. I have used allot of force before I scream in pain before the phone eats my nail off.

Any help suggestions?

PS. Don't want to damage my phone I have already thought about prising it up with a screwdriver, just one slip and we will be both scared for life

Have you tried pushing the back as well as lifting? If you effectively deform the back by squeezing along it's length at the same time as lifting then if tends to be a lot less painful.

I'd suggest thinking about signing up with a fitness studio...

I tried using my nails and then resorted to a bobby pin. Seemed to do the job well enough.

I don't suggest that. I damaged the stylus' tip, and it has scratched the screen of my loaner, albeit a small scratch. Just press in the middle of the back as you pull it off at the corner. I love how hard it is to take off. Too many devices make SD card theft to simple.
