Hey all ... I'm trying to update my N900 by flashing, but I'm experiencing some strange issues ...

I have Windows 7 64 bit, so according to the Wiki here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware , I'm using Option 1 ..

1) Restarted Windows 7 with disabling the driver signature checking thing
2) Turned off my N900 completely
3) installed Flasher 3.5 as admin
4) Turned on the N900 by pressing the 'u' key and connected it to my computer via USB half a second later

.. At this stage, the N900 does turn on, and I can see the USB sign in the top right corner, but, for some reason, the LED lighting is turned off .. that is, the LED is very very very dark .. (I'm saying this because the last time I updated to PR 1.1.1 via flashing, the LED light was also on, so that I could see the USB sign without squinting) ..

5) Now I run the flasher command with admin privileges ...

At this stage, the Flasher says :

Suitable USB device not found, waiting

That is, both the N900 and the Flasher program can't detect each other ..

Any solutions to this ?

Maybe if you turn off UserAccountControl and log in as administrator and use W7 Ultimate Business.

I had the same problem on WXP Pro where I had to be administrator to install the program AND have administrator privileges for the program to fully access the USB driver/HardwareAbstractionLayer.

Mickeysoft doesn't like applications that send RAW data thru USB without their million dollar stamp of approval.

Yep I know of their $$$ seal, and so I did all installations and ran commands in admin mode ... still not detecting ..

Luckily I have VMware installed as well with Windows XP in it ... Problem now is when I connect the N900 (with the 'u' key pressed), it by default connects to the Host machine (Windows 7), and when I try to switch the device to the virtual OS (Win XP) from within VMware, it fails to do so ... any ideas ?

Use 1 of the other option from the wiki.
I'd go with live cd.
