Was also wondering if you could get macbook remote to work. I know you can get the app for n900 that acts as the remote, but having the remote work on n900 would be awesome too :P

Not possible, the IR is only for transmitting, it can't receive any kind of IR signal(at least that's what the hardware specs shows). A sixaxis control might be possible since it uses Bluetooth, but then someone would have to code an application for that.
