That red led is annoying.. I read it's there by law
But we should all have the choice to break laws
Law? What law? And where?
Certainly not in my country.

The thing is that, supposedly, people should be able to notice if somebody is recording them. Same as taking pictures, sometimes you cannot (easily) disable the sound it makes (e.g. Symbian).

Same thing with recording telephone conversations, usually you hear a "beep" so you can ask WTF.

Well that's not in all countries so there should be some gconf value or something to disable/enable it. So you can decide yourself to break the law(in some countries) if needed.

Well, I'm sure you don't want police tugs to notice that you are recording them while they beat pacific protestors.
Or common criminals committing any crime.
Plus, I don't see any red light in any of those thousand cameras I see everywhere, why should I let them notice when I pay them in kind?

Pali, with all due respect, I thin that it's time to screw aesthetic, and finally "fork" kp package, to get rid of "ancient" un-promoteable bug. Situation, where sane users (sticking to extras, if they don't feel comfortable with -testing and -devel) are punished by installing non-working version, which sits in *stable* and can - probably - bring device into state of "reflash needed", is absolutely out of the line.

I know rationale behind keeping with same package "line", and generally agree with it, but I think that - after so many months - rationale being "forking" kp package into another package instance family is *much* better.

I've posted it in the "overall" KP thread without answer, but, I think that it fit [development] section more, than "general troubles - KP make my battery 341 C hot". so, re-posting here:
---

Using kp49 and it's modules, I can't seem to find cdrom.ko, sr_mod.ko, and sg.ko, necessary to use optical disc readers/writers (cd, DVD's etc).

AFAIK, this problem should be fixed in kp48, so how come I'm unable to locate these modules in /lib/modules/2.6.28.10-power49? Is it some fault on my side, or kp49 glitch?

@Pali:
Please have a look at the upstream fixes in the first post of this thread (zip package):
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80889

I have incorporated them in my kernel builds and everything looks fine.

I will look at all patches for kernel-power later. Now my N900 is in service...
