What values for swappiness and cache pressure did you end up with?

debernardis, have you tested the swappolube settings regarding their impact on Easy Debian appliations?

Swappiness seems to have accelerated my Iceweasel. Not enough, though

Not really. I don't know of any way to substantiate objectively, numerically, the perceived effect of the tweaks. After having installed swappolube, I have used easy debian with the gimp a number of times, and it was more or less the same I reminded.
Maybe I could do some recording of the time to start openoffice writer or some other big program? What do you think? Something more appropriate?

Startup time is good, mine improved, but IMO the bane of Easy Debian is UI responsiveness.

hi,
installed the extras-test version today. query, why is the the 'apply' button always dimmed whether i press current or proposed? only the store button is available. 'apply' should mean that it will revert back upon reboot, and 'store' will retain modified settings even after reboot. is that correct? thanks.....

Hi,

Actually, there is no code to dim any button so all of them are always active.
I can only assume that it is a colors issue.

Did you see here for screenshots: http://wiki.maemo.org/Swappolube

Are you using a theme? if yes, could you post a screenshot?

Version 0.1.0-1 of swappolube-nogui and all previous versions I posted on the forum had a problem in postinst (pointed out by Mikkov, and due to my ignorance ) and didn't uninstall the /etc/event.d/tuning script when the package was removed. This might be the reason why someone, even after uninstalling it, still enjoyed a well lubed GUI

I'm learning by copying other people's code - in this case I copied from shortcutd - and version 0.1.2 in extras-devel should be correct (hopefully), in that in uninstalls cleanly without leaving the tuning script behind.
Please report any problem you encounter in upgrading (of course if you chose the nogui version).

Uploaded an updated version (0.3-1) in extras-devel

This update does not bring any new functionality. It merely provides a different way to update, copy and delete the configuration options chosen in the gui.
(The previous version was using the command root provided by rootsh)

Cumulative changes:
v:0.3-0
* Removed indirect dependency to the rootsh package (i.e. root command).
* Update in sudoers.
* Added new script to change values.
* Restricted privileges of companion files.
v:0.3-1
* Update in sudoers.
* Improved helper script to copy/delete the configuration files.
* Restricted privileges of companion files.

I've done my best to test and I believe nothing from previous functionality was broken. Nevertheless will wait a few users to test first, before pushing to extras-testing.
