When I had a bad battery I couldn't even get it to boot. So perhaps your first move should be a new battery. Be sure to charge it a while before trying to boot.

No, if all the apps I mentioned are running, it takes over a minute. With no other apps it is about 15 seconds.

Put Flip Clock into insomniac mode. Kill the program by pressing the upper button to the left of the screen and tap the X. Now the N810 is stuck in...

My guess would be that they figured the battery life is good enough, and the back cover doesn't look like it was designed for a lot of openings.

Don't blame you a bit.

I used bunzip2 (I got a bz2 - are you sure it's a gz2?) and then WinZip to unpack the file on my PC. I'll copy them to the N810 with the USB cable.
