Re: Dismal Diablo Battery Life - N800

Thanks, I will look into this. If it helps with the battery life I'll report back.

Straycat, I feel your pain . . . in my case I know it's not the SD cards, because they're the same ones I was...

Re: Dismal Diablo Battery Life - N800

Know I'm reviving an old thread, but this has been a constant source of low-grade annoyance. I upgraded my N800 to Diablo about a year ago, and my battery life has never been the same. I used to...

Re: Nokia CEO Resigns

It strikes me that it would be foolish for Nokia to hitch its wagon exclusively to WP7 (in the high-end smartphone space), especially without any reliable guarantees that it will succeed. It is a...

Re: AbiWord for Chinook and Diablo - Open Beta

Thanks for the explanation! It's nice at least to know what the issue is. I will make the switch to Diablo eventually, maybe this will be the thing that pushes me over the edge. In any event, good...

Re: AbiWord for Chinook and Diablo - Open Beta

Thanks for providing the link. Unfortunately, even though I installed abiword from extras-devel (successfully), I get several "packages missing" errors when I try to install your .deb. These...

Re: MediaBox Media Center 0.96 with UPnP and more

Image preloading in the new version is very nice. My problem with videos suddenly quitting seems to have gone away of its own accord; let's hope it stays like that!

Re: MediaBox Media Center 0.96 with UPnP and more

Thanks for the responses. I'll try to determine if the playback issue happens at particular points in particular videos.

The Youtube plugin seems to work quite well so far, by the way. One...

Re: MediaBox Media Center 0.96 with UPnP and more

Thanks for continuing to develop this app, I like it a lot. I'm still getting used to the UI changes but I think ultimately most of them are improvements.

I have tried playing a few movies...

Re: chumby

Had the same problem installing, but this workaround worked for me, and now it works great--including video. Neat app! And a good way to get my friends/family intrigued by Chumby.

Becoming Root

Although there is a great deal of advice out there for becoming root, I am still having no luck with it. I'm sure someone can set me straight quickly, so rather than waste more hours on searching...

Re: More geocaching with Maemo

Great program! Just started geocaching, but already this program (and Maemo Mapper) seems nearly indispensible. Thank you!

Re: The $20 unlimited data plan

Agreed

The $30/mo SERO plan is an excellent deal, esp. with the EVDO factored in. Howardforums provides a pretty comprehensive description (http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/SPRINT_SERO) of...

Re: N800-ease of use for "non techie" type

Specifically on wifi in NZ: just got back from a trip there. I brought my N800 along, and while there is wifi to be found, esp. in the cities, there seems to be very little FREE wifi. One or two...

Re: aisleriot on 2008?

I am probably missing something, but . . . where is the score displayed? The screenshot for the GNOME version at http://live.gnome.org/Aisleriot shows a "Score" and "Time" display down at the...

Re: what REALLY is the current state of these N800 features?

Well said. Honestly, for all of the (mostly well-meaning and constructive) criticisms raised in this forum, the fact is that the feature-to-price ratio for the N800 is outstanding. In some ways,...

Re: Video player on the 800 - best practice?

Well, I have finally found a method that (to my eyes) produces PERFECTLY fluid, high-quality video files for my N800 from DVD sources in mplayer, and nearly perfect (but with slight micro-stuttering)...

Re: Importing List of POIs into Maemo Mapper 2.3

Yep, that is essentially what gnuite suggested, and it would work just fine for a small number of categories. But where you have a lot of categories (e.g. 60), that would involve:

(1) dividing...

Re: Importing List of POIs into Maemo Mapper 2.3

The LAST thing I intended was to be critical of your app! To the contrary, now that I know Maemo Mapper has no support whatsoever for importing categories, I think it's great that it has this...

Re: Importing List of POIs into Maemo Mapper 2.3

Ah, thank you. Category icons was my next project, so this advice comes at a great time! Fortunately, swapping out the "/" characters should not be too difficult.

And at the risk of being flamed...

Re: Importing List of POIs into Maemo Mapper 2.3

Sorry, should have been clearer. The fine folks who complied all of this data and are kindly sharing it free of charge only have it easily to hand in these 3 formats. They are set up primarily to...

Re: Importing List of POIs into Maemo Mapper 2.3

Thanks, I realize that now. Fortunately poi_loader provides an alternative that is a bit less labor-intensive. My POI file had 68 categories; doing them in 1 batch is nice.

Still--I said it...

Re: Importing List of POIs into Maemo Mapper 2.3

Yes, and I was really hoping that it would do the trick. But it had the following problems:

* I had a choice of 3 input formats to begin with: .img (Garmin specific), .mp (used exclusively by...
